Cleaning Your Garbage Disposal
In the hot summer months, food spoils more quickly, and smells tend to fester more easily. Which is why cleaning your garbage disposal is so important. This space is often overlooked — because it is literally hidden under your sink — but is easily cleaned and maintained.
Always start with a pair of gloves (especially when cleaning in dark spaces) and tools required for the job. We suggest:
Gloves
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Bleach
1) Start by cleaning out your garbage disposal to make sure no food is stuck; if your sink has a sink strainer beside to remove it and properly clean it with bleach.
2) Next pour baking soda into your drain, followed by vinegar letting it bubble for a few minutes.
3) Repeat if necessary and rinse with very warm water until this space is clean and disinfected,
4) *Optional* We like to put a few drops of essential oil into the sink drain before replacing the sink strainer (scent recommendations: pink grapefruit, lemon, cedar).
